Interdisciplinary Programs
Flexible Programs of Study – SMSU students have two options
Individualized Interdisciplinary Major (IIM)
The Individualized Interdisciplinary Major (IIM) allows students to develop a program from two or more existing majors, when an existing major does not fit a their career or personal goals. The student’s proposal must be developed in consultation with a faculty member and approved by the university’s Curriculum Committee, which will consider how the proposal relates to the student’s personal educational goals.
General Studies Major
The General Studies Major is the most flexible interdisciplinary program available at Southwest Minnesota State University. This program allows students to design a major that fulfills the university’s graduation requirements, but gives the student more options in combining courses from across the curriculum to complete their degree.
