Transfer Pathways
Southwest Minnesota State University partners with two-year Minnesota State colleges to help you create a clear path to a four-year degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Special Education. After completing a specific associate degree from one of our Minnesota State partners, all 60 credits will count toward the related bachelor's degree. After being admitted to Southwest Minnesota State University, you will complete the remaining 60 credits at SMSU to earn your 4-year degree.
Southwest Teacher Preparation Partnership (SWTPP)
The Southwest Teacher Preparation Partnership program is a collaboration between Southwest Minnesota State University, Minnesota West Career and Technical College in Worthington, MN, and Independent School District 518 in Worthington, MN. This program was designed to meet the growing need for ELED and TESL teachers. Also, this program is a way for those interested in a teaching degree who are location bound to achieve a teaching degree in one of these two areas.
Teacher Preparation Program
A teacher candidate must put forward a formal application for admission to the Teacher Preparation Program (TPP) if they are pursuing an Education major leading to licensure. Admission to the TPP is a prerequisite for most upper division (300 and above) Education methods courses.
Once a teacher candidate has met all Criteria for Admission, they will start an application. A teacher candidate will not be able to register for methods classes that require admission to the TPP until being formally admitted, so it is important to start this process as soon as criteria is met, which is typically one to two semesters prior to enrolling in methods courses.
TPP applications will not be accepted after August 1st for fall consideration. Any applications submitted after August 1st will be considered for admission for the following spring term.
