Types of Benefits

Chapter 31 - Vocational Rehabilitation

This program's primary function is to help veterans with service-connected disabilities become suitably employed, maintain employment, or achieve independence in daily living.

Chapter 33 - Post 9/11 GI Bill®

The Post 9/11 GI Bill® provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill®.

Chapter 35 - Dependents Educational Assistance

The spouse, child, stepchild or adopted child of a veteran who is deceased (service-connected) or who is 100% disabled (service-connected) may qualify for Chapter 35 benefits.

Tuition Assistance (TA)

TA provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty civilian education programs.

Recent updates have been made to TA benefits. Please see below from the VA regarding these changes.

  1. The Fiscal Year (FY) annual cap has increased from $4,000 to $4,500. This is still a shared cap between Tuition and Credentialing Assistance programs.
  2. The semester hour cap has increased from 16 to 18 hours.
  3. First-time TA users must complete ArmyIgnitED 101 training provided by their Army Education Center AND must use the Career Path Decide decision support tool prior to requesting TA.
  4. Additional updates to policy will follow with the publication of AR 621-5 later this FY.
  5. For assistance, Soldiers should contact their local Army Education Center.
