Mustang V-Labs

Mustang V-Labs is a platform that allows students to remotely log in and access on-campus computer labs from their personal devices. This service provides seamless access to specialized software, including SPSS, Maple, Mathematica, Minitab, and more, from any location.

ATTENTION:

  • Your username is: campus\YourStarID (i.e., smsu.edu\ab1234cd)
  • Your password is: your StarID password
  • Remember to save your files to OneDrive or email them to yourself and log off. Files saved directly on these computers will be deleted.
  • The remote access service allows students to connect to a Windows lab machine remotely, providing access to Windows applications.

Mustang V-Labs Instructions

ATTENTION:
  • Your username is: campus\YourStarID (i.e., smsu.edu\ab1234cd)

  • Remember to save your files to OneDrive or email them to yourself and log off. Files saved directly on these computers will be deleted.
  1. Click or type the link below in a new browser to see different computers available. You can connect to any of the listed computers by clicking the "Connect" button to the right of desired computer: https://remoteaccess.labstats.com/Southwest-Minnesota-State-University.

  2. Clicking the "Connect" button for your desired computer prompts you to download and open the connection file, followed by the listed steps.

  3. Once downloaded, open the file. The remote desktop connection will automatically pop up. Click "Connect" to proceed.

  4. Once it is connected, log in with your user account and password to gain access.

  5. Always remember to save your files and log off the computer when you are finished using it.

1. New users: Download the Windows app from the App Store. Search for "Windows App" and download the app.

2. Once you have downloaded and launched the application, select the "+" button on the top right corner of the page. Click on "Add PC"

3. After clicking "Add PC," fill in the required information based on the instructions below:
a. PC name: fk25st3.smsu.edu
b. User account: smsu.edu\StarID (i.e., smsu.edu\ab1234cd)
c. Gateway: labconnect.smsu.edu:8443
d. Ensure 'Bypass for local addresses' is not checked
e. Click the "Add" button when you have filled in all the required information.

4. Once you've added the PC, click or type the link below in a new browser to connect to any of the available computers listed. Connect to any of the listed computers by clicking the "Connect" button to the right of desired computer: https://remoteaccess.labstats.com/Southwest-Minnesota-State-University

5. Clicking the "Connect" button for your desired computer prompts you to download and open the connection file, followed by the listed steps.

6. When you open the connection file downloaded, it pops out a login window, you have to put in your username and password to gain access.

Click on Continue to gain access to the computer.


7. Always remember to log off the computer when you are finished using it.

NOTE: For returning users, start from step 4

  1. New users: Download the Microsoft Remote Desktop app from the Play Store. Search for "Microsoft Remote Desktop" and download the app.

  2. Once you have downloaded and launched the application, Click the "+" button in the top right corner and select "Add PC".

  3. After clicking "Add PC," fill in the required information based on the instructions below:
    1. PC name: smsu.edu
    2. User account: edu\StarID (i.e., smsu.edu\ab1234cd)
    3. Admin mode: Enabled
    4. Gateway: smsu.edu:8443
    5. Ensure don’t use for local address' is off
    6. Click the "Save" button when you have filled in all the required information.

  4. Once you've added the PC, click or type the link below in a new browser to connect to any of the available computers listed. Connect to any of the listed computers by clicking the "Connect" button to the right of desired computer: https://remoteaccess.labstats.com/Southwest-Minnesota-State-University

  5. Clicking the "Connect" button for your desired computer prompts you to download and open the connection file, followed by the listed steps.

  6. When you download the file, it opens as a text file. To use it for remote desktop, you need to go to your Downloads folder and open it with the remote desktop application.

  7. Remember to switch to tablet mode for a larger view. By default, it opens in phone mode.

  8. Once you open the text file using Remote Desktop (RDP), you'll need to enter your username and password to gain access.

  9. Click Connect to verify certificate.

  10. Always remember to log off the computer when you are finished using it.

NOTE: For returning users, start from step 2.
