‘Why Place Matters’ presented Oct. 12

Joe Amato, emeritus professor of history at Southwest Minnesota State University, will give a presentation, “Why Place Matters,” at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12 at the Marshall-Lyon County Library.
Amato has written extensively about place and everyday life. He will discuss why place matters as it relate to local history, nostalgia and an ever-changing world. Also speaking will be Janet Timmerman, coordinator of Murray County Museums, who will discuss how local museums help in “place-making.” Timmerman oversees the End-O-Line Railroad Park, the Murray County Historical Museum and the Dinehart House.
The program will precede the Society for the Study of Local and Regional History’s 2015 annual meeting.
This event is sponsored by the Marshall-Lyon County Library, the Southwest Minnesota Regional Research Center and the Society for the Study of Local and Regional History. The program is free and open to the public.
