Estimating Financial Aid

Education beyond high school is a big investment. It is very important to have an idea of how much your education will cost. There are several mechanisms that will help you estimate the amount of financial aid you may be eligible for. Each site requires you to enter the same type of information you complete when submitting the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

The Minnesota Office of Higher Education will provide you with an estimated SAI, Federal Pell Grant, MN State Grant, tax credits, and total estimated Cost of Attendance for the MN institution you have selected.

The Financial Aid site will provide you with either a detailed or summary report including the formula calculations, estimated EFC, and estimated Cost of Attendance (after you enter the costs of the school (s) you are interested in).

This website is designed for high school juniors and their families. Estimated Effective Family Contribution and Pell eligibility will be provided. The information provided is helpful in your planning and preparation for post-secondary education.

Net Price Calculator

The Net Price Calculator is a tool for students and parents to use to get an estimate of what it may cost to attend Southwest Minnesota State University. The information you receive from the calculator is an estimate of costs and financial aid.

Using the calculator should take less than ten minutes of your time, assuming you have family financial information available. You will be asked some basic questions about you and your family’s financial situation so it might be helpful to have recent tax forms or pay stubs on hand.

Things to Keep in Mind when estimating your aid eligibility:

  • If using different estimators - always enter the same data
  • Keep in mind that the Cost of Attendance may or may not include books or living expenses.
  • Your EFC will be the same at all institutions.
