How to Make an Appointment
The Writing Center utilizes an appointment-scheduling website.
When you click on the link to make an appointment, you are taken to our external scheduling system.
If this is the first time you are making an appointment, you will have to register an account first. You can use any email you like, but be sure to remember what you chose. This is the email that reports, reminders, and commented-on papers get sent to.
Once you are logged in, you’ll see the schedule. The white boxes represent available appointments that you can choose from. Find one that works for you.
When you click on the box, a list of questions will pop up. The first main one asks you to select your appointment type from three choices:
- a face-to-face meeting with a writing consultant in BA 527
- an online meeting/chat in real-time (you log back in to join the tutor virtually)
- an online “eTutoring” appointment, which is basically an appointment for your paper to be looked at. You do not have to be there.
Choose which online option you prefer and fill in the rest of the required fields. Be sure to save the appointment at the end of the form.
You can upload your paper or things like assignment sheets or rubrics for any of the different appointment types. This helps the tutor so they can see your work along with you or know what the requirements are. No worries if you aren’t ready to upload anything when you first make your appointment—you can log back in to the appointment later and “edit” the appointment to bring the “attach a file” option back up.
- If you choose the eTutoring appointment for your paper, you MUST attach your paper before the appointment time.
- If you choose the real-time chat, log back in and click on the appointment square at the time of your appointment, and there will be a “Start or Join Online Consultation” link for you to click on. This brings up our interactive online space where you can choose to use audio, video, and/or chat, and a whiteboard where you can also paste your paper and make notes on it together with the tutor.
That's all there is to it. You should receive a reminder in your email or via text (if you provided your cell # when you registered) about the appointment you signed up for.
TIP: The schedule will show appointments available up to a month in advance. Keep checking back if you need to book an appointment more than a month away.
