Tuba Christmas

The annual Southwest Minnesota State University “Tuba Christmas” concert will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024 in the Student Center Upper Level.

Participation for this group is open to all low brass players regardless of age or experience. There is a $10 fee for participation in the event. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and rehearsal from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the SMSU band room, Fine Arts 135.

About Tuba Christmas:

Community members who play the tuba, baritone, euphonium or trombone may participate in this program. Community members, high school and middle school students are encouraged to participate.

Created by Harvey Phillips, Merry Tuba Christmas concerts have been presented in over 275 cities throughout the United States as well as several foreign counties. Phillips was inspired to create Tuba Christmas as an annual event honoring his teacher, the late tuba player William J. Bell. Each Tuba Christmas performance features traditional Christmas carols especially arranged by American composer Alec Wilder. Tuba Christmas concerts are presented with permission from the Harvey Phillips Foundation, Inc.
