Official Rules

1. Who Can Apply

  • You must be a new First-Year or Transfer degree-seeking student planning to attend Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) in Fall 2025.

  • You must be a United States citizen or an eligible non-citizen (e.g., permanent resident).

  • You must be at least 13 years old. Applicants under 18 should inform a parent or guardian about their participation in this scholarship program.

  • You must meet the admission eligibility requirements for SMSU to receive the scholarship.

  • SMSU reserves the right to verify the eligibility qualifications of any award recipient.

  • NO PURCHASE NECESSARY to enter or receive a scholarship award.

2. How to Enter

Option 1: Visit Campus
  • Schedule an official campus visit on the SMSU admissions website.

  • Complete your visit between March 17 and May 9, 2025.

  • Limit one entry per person; each person can receive up to one $500 award.

  • Students attending New Mustang Days are automatically entered.

  • Have a photo taken during the official visit that can be used when SMSU announces the award recipient's name.

Option 2: Complete a Virtual Visit
  • Complete an official virtual visit through the SMSU admissions website.

  • Complete your virtual visit between March 17 and May 9, 2025.

3. How Award Recipients Are Chosen and Notified

  • All eligible entries from Monday to Friday must be completed by 3:30 p.m. CST and will be entered into a drawing held that Friday at 4:00 p.m. CST.

  • Award recipients are notified the following Monday at 9:00 a.m. CST.

  • We'll contact the award recipients using the information they provided.

  • One $500 Mustang Visit Award Scholarship will be awarded each week.

  • All methods of entry have an equal chance of receiving an award.

4. About the Scholarship

  • Award recipients receive a $500 Mustang Visit Scholarship award.

  • The money can be used for tuition, fees, housing, and food at SMSU.

  • The scholarship can't be transferred or exchanged for cash.

  • The money is credited directly to the SMSU student’s account.

5. Award Recipient Requirements

  • To claim your scholarship, you must enroll as a degree-seeking student before the first day of Fall 2025 classes. This award is only valid for the Fall 2025 semester. If the selected recipient doesn’t qualify or claim their scholarship award before the first day of Fall 2025 classes, SMSU reserves the right to choose an alternate award recipient.

  • You must be enrolled at SMSU when the scholarship is used.

  • You must follow all university rules.

  • When you provide a photo and accept the scholarship, you give SMSU permission to use your name and photo on its website, social media accounts, and campus publications.

6. Travel Information

  • If you choose to visit campus, you are responsible for your own travel costs.

  • SMSU is not responsible for any travel problems or accidents.

7. Privacy

  • Your personal information will be used to run this scholarship program. SMSU may also use it for other school-related purposes as described in the University's privacy policies.

  • SMSU will handle your information according to privacy laws.

  • By entering, you agree to let SMSU use your information, as these rules explain if you receive an award.

8. Tax Information

  • Award recipients are responsible for any taxes on or resulting from their scholarship.

  • SMSU will provide tax forms if required by law.

9. Changes to the Program

  • SMSU reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate this program at any time without notice.

  • SMSU reserves the right to modify these rules at any time without prior notice.

10. Administrator Rights

  • When you participate in this scholarship program, you agree to follow these rules and accept SMSU's decisions about the program.

  • SMSU reserves the right to disqualify any entry or participant if needed.

  • This program follows all federal, state, and local laws.

  • The odds of being awarded a scholarship depend on the number of eligible entries received each week.

  • SMSU's decisions regarding award recipient selection and all other matters related to the scholarship program are final and not subject to appeal.

  • This program is VOID WHERE PROHIBITED by law.

  • SMSU may make decisions about issues not covered explicitly in these rules to ensure the scholarship program runs fairly and efficiently.

11. Limitation of Liability

  • By participating, entrants release and hold harmless SMSU, its trustees, officers, employees, agents, and representatives from any claims arising from participating in this program.

  • SMSU assumes no responsibility or liability for any incorrect entry information, unauthorized access, technical malfunctions, errors, omissions, interruptions, deletions, or communication failures.

  • If, for any reason, the program cannot run as planned due to technical failures, tampering, fraud, or any other causes beyond SMSU's control, SMSU reserves the right to cancel, modify, or suspend the program.

12. Disputes and Governing Law

  • These terms are governed by Minnesota law.

  • If there is a disagreement about this scholarship program that cannot be resolved informally, SMSU will select a neutral third party to help resolve the issue.

  • By participating, you agree to handle any disputes through this process rather than through the court system.

  • If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest of the terms will still apply.
