When can I vote on Election Day?

  • Polls are open from 7am to 8pm. As long as you are in line to vote at 8pm, you will have the opportunity to vote; do not leave before voting if you are in line at 8pm!
How do I know where to go to vote?
  • On-campus students should go to the Red Baron Arena. Voting occurs on the second floor so students should expect to either take the elevator or go upstairs to vote.
  • Off-campus students should check which ward they are in using the Polling Place Finder.
Where will I go once I get to my polling place?
  • Polling places have an American flag placed at the entrance; we also have signs directly folks to the entrance to enter the polling place. Once you enter, there will be additional signs guiding you to the voter check-in/registration.
What if I’m not registered to vote, or need to update my voter registration?
  • On-campus students are cleared to vote as we have the residence hall roster.
  • Off-campus students need to provide Proof of Residence to update their registration.
  • Students will also want to bring a photo ID (University ID, State ID, Tribal ID).
Are there things I can’t wear/bring to the polling place?
  • Yes, voters are not allowed to wear, exhibit, or distribute any item that displays: the name, likeness, logo, or slogan of a candidate who appears on the ballot; the number, title, subject, slogan, or logo of a ballot question that appears on the ballot; or the name, logo, or slogan of a political party represented by a candidate on the ballot (Per the 2023 Minnesota Statute 211B.11 Election Day Prohibitions). This applies during voting hours, within a polling place, and within 100 feet of the building in which a polling place is situated (and within 100 feet of the room in which a polling place is situated).
Can I leave some races/amendments blank?
  • Absolutely!  They can only vote for one candidate in each race but they can fill out as much or as little as they would like on the ballot.
Can I have my phone when voting?
  • Yes, it is not encouraged because we try to keep the actual voting area as quiet and private as possible, but they are allowed.
Can I use my phone to look up candidates while I am filling out the ballot?
  • Yes, see the answer above.
What can election staff do/not do?
  • Election staff are available to answer questions about the voting process so don't hesitate to ask!
  • Election staff are NOT allowed to tell you HOW to vote.
