Community Users
SMSU ID OR COURTESY CARD IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CHECKOUTS.
Access to library collections is open to all and we encourage area community members to take advantage of SMSU library resources. Students with a current Minnesota State registration ID from any academic institution may check out materials. High school students and community members may receive borrowing privileges by registering with a public library card at the Circulation Desk, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, or call Pam Gladis 537-6813 for an appointment. Please complete and bring the application form to the circulation desk to receive our borrowing privileges.
Off-Campus Access
Most of the online indexes and databases other than the online catalog are provided through subscription contracts that limit access to currently enrolled SMSU students, faculty, and staff. The number of users in those categories determines the fees SMSU pays. To adhere to licensing agreements, we must authenticate our remote users. Anyone can use the databases in the library, but to be in compliance with our contractual arrangements the SMSU Library does not permit remote access for non-affiliated users.
Research Help
Research help is available many hours that the SMSU Library is open. Reference librarians answer users’ questions and help them find and evaluate appropriate resources. Research help is available to community users, but students, faculty, and staff requests are given priority.
Interlibrary Loan Services
SMSU Library does not provide interlibrary loan services for non-affiliated users. Members of the public should place interlibrary loan requests through their local public library.
