International Student Organization
Southwest Minnesota State University is the melting point of many cultures and origins, represented by various countries around the globe. The International Students Organization, better known as the ISO, helps the international students get acclimated to the new environment when they first step into the United States.
ISO was started in 1979. The purpose of this organization is to promote international understanding, goodwill and interaction between international and American students. The club promotes unity and welfare of international students and helps them to create community and support them throughout their studies.
ISO is a student run organization that is open to any and all SMSU students. ISO offers a wide variety of cultural events for SMSU in collaboration with campus partners, including the Center for International Education, to co-sponsor or lead a variety of cultural events such as WorldFest (previously known as International Food Festival), International Gala, International Student Awards, socials and cultural celebrations, and provide opportunities for local excursions to international students showcasing the history and culture of the US. ISO has sponsored tournaments such as soccer and table tennis, FIFA World Cup watch, and provided many events for international cultures to be celebrated and shared with the SMSU community.
