Testing FAQs
SMSU is not a certified CLEP testing site, however, students can take the CLEP exam virtually or can reach out to one of the testing centers below:
- South Dakota State University, Brookings, SD
- Minnesota West Community & Technical College, Worthington, MN
- Ridgewater College, Willmar or Hutchinson, MN
- Dakota State University, Madison, SD
- University of South Dakota, Sioux Falls, SD
- Iowa Lakes Community College, Estherville or Emmetsburg, IA
- Southeast Technical College (formerly Southeast Technical Institute), Sioux Falls, SD
- University of Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls, SD
- Northwest Iowa Community College, Sheldon, IA
To earn credit from CLEP, students must achieve a score of 50 or higher and have their official score report sent from CollegeBoard to SMSU for evaluation.

Courses that are offered “mostly online” or that require proctored exams should provide you with a list of options for proctoring; SMSU does not currently have the capacity to proctor individual exams for academic courses, so you will need to follow up with your professor.
