The Brothers of Rondo Film
Features the impact of the I-94 construction on the Rondo Neighborhood of Minneapolis and the social justice activists who fought to save their community and way of life. There will be a panel discussion following the film. Light refreshments will be provided.
The Brothers of Rondo chronicles the life stories of four men who grew up in the Rondo neighborhood of Saint Paul, enrolled at Minnesota State University Moorhead, and became leaders in their areas of work and study. Their stories demonstrate the importance of Black culture and community and how Rondo was instrumental in laying a foundation of resilience in their lives.

Poetry Reading
Cassie J. Williams ’07/’16 is a writer, educator, and passionate advocate for social justice. As an artist and performer, she shares her voice on local and national stages, using poetry as a tool for connection and social change.
Raised in St. Paul, MN, Cassie brings a wealth of experience in community and youth programming and organizing to her current role as associate director and Labor Educator at the Labor Education Service at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Business in Minneapolis. An alumna of Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU), Cassie has a deep commitment to advancing education, labor rights, and social equity. With an extensive background in both the classroom and the community, Cassie’s work spans a variety of mediums, including literary journals, slam competitions, and public speaking engagements at schools, events, and conferences.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Cassie is a wife and mother of five, openly sharing her experiences navigating the complexities of balancing career, family, and creativity. On social media, she embodies the persona Poetess Unbound, offering insight into her journey as both a writer and a mother, exploring the tensions, triumphs, and challenges of life as a multi-faceted woman in today’s world.

Dr. Michael V. Walker ‘98 is a K-12 educator, DEI scholar, and the Director of the Office of Black Student Achievement for Minneapolis Public Schools. While his focus is on Minneapolis schools, he also addresses the disparities state and nationwide with a career focus on youth development and assisting black youth to achieve success.
