Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL)

Southwest Minnesota State University offers a Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). The TESL emphasis is also available as a licensure if you are not seeking a full master's degree. You can take the 27 credits from the TESL emphasis for licensure in TESL without taking the core education courses required for a master's degree.

This emphasis will prepare teachers to meet the state requirements for ESL instruction and increase their knowledge and skills in research-based practices for working with English-language learners. The program contains 30 total credits, including 8 three-credit classes and a three-credit practicum. This program will lead to a K-12 ESL license in Minnesota.
