A common, white aster of dry prairies and other open places has bushy, grayish plants growing 1 to 2 feet tall, often in patches. The alternate, small, narrow, pointed leaves are less than 3 inches long and ¼ inch wide. Flower heads are about ½ inch wide and are arranged in dense, often 1-sided clusters with up to 20 white, petal-like rays surrounding a small yellow disk.
